Sourcing Premium Turmeric from India: Curcumin, Grades & Specs
What international buyers should know about Indian turmeric — curcumin content, finger vs powder, and the quality parameters that matter at port of entry.

Origin & Varieties
India is the world's largest producer and exporter of turmeric, with prized varieties grown across Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka. Erode and Salem turmeric are known for bright colour, while Nizamabad bulbs offer consistent curcumin levels favoured by extraction buyers.
Curcumin & Quality Parameters
Curcumin content is the headline specification, typically ranging from 2% to 5%. Buyers should also confirm moisture (max 10%), total ash, lead and the absence of artificial colour such as metanil yellow. Our turmeric is lab-tested against destination-market limits before dispatch.
Finger vs Powder
Whole fingers offer longer shelf life and are preferred where buyers re-grind to their own mesh. Powder is supplied at agreed curcumin levels and mesh size, double-polished and steam-sterilised on request for EU and US markets.
Packaging & Export
Standard packing is 25 kg PP/paper bags or jute, palletised for container loads, with private labelling available. MOQ starts at 5 MT. Documentation includes Certificate of Analysis, phytosanitary certificate, and Spices Board registration details.
